Yin Yoga is fast growing in popularity in ours, and other yoga studios around Australia. It’s an incredibly beneficial class that will support your health goals. Gym goers who think yoga is not for them, think again!
First what is Yin Yoga? Unlike other types of yoga that are more dynamic and that work on the muscles to develop stamina, strength and fitness (vinyasa, ashtanga, hot yoga, etc), yin is comprised of seated or lying poses that are held for an extended period of time. For this reason, you actually only perform a small number of poses each class. The long-held poses are designed to stimulate circulation, and work on the tendons, ligaments and fascia of the hips, legs and lower back allowing release of tension and flexibility.
Many clients often compare the feeling after a yin class to a massage! How divine.
A regular yin practice will increase physical agility and stabilization, greater joint mobility and lengthening of muscles. This will give you a greater range of movement in the gym and to be more resilient under the stress of heavy lifting.
So why not give it a go? All fitness levels welcome, and you don’t need to be a yogi! In fact Yin is a great class to begin with.
See you on the mat
