How Jo Discovered How Reformer Pilates is Actually a Workout!

Meet Jo who was one of those people who believed that reformer Pilates wasn’t much of a workout and never thought it was a type of training. Find out what she has grown to love about reformer Pilates…

Tell us about why you decided to make a change in your lifestyle?

I decided to make a lifestyle change and join Pinnacle Health Clubs because I wanted to train in an environment that is welcoming and supportive. I absolutely love strength training, however I was searching for another type of training that I could really focus on and increase my skills which is how I found Pilates. Coming into reformer classes in the wellness studio really allows me to push my body to exercise in a way I’ve never been able to before. Being exposed to Pilates has really opened up my mind that I don’t have to lift heavy all the time and do constant HIIT training. I now allow time to slow down and really focus on body movement and coordination through reformer classes.

What has been the hardest part of your journey so far?

I have a very demanding full time job and I am a shift worker so I find that I don’t always get to go to the gym everyday or feel 100% motivated to smash a work out. I love training 5-6 times a week, but realistically some weeks I am only able to get into the gym on my days off.

How have you overcome this?

I have found at Pinnacle there are so many different classes happening at one time, not just early mornings or in the evening but over the course of the whole day, 7 days a week. This has really helped me to organise my time a better, get to the gym more often throughout the week and theres always class times that suits my shift work.

I have found that in particular, there is always a Pilates class that I can slot into in the last minute which is always motivating and I always leave feeling incredible after such a structured workout.

When you look back, what do you think has changed?

I look back to when I first joined Pinnacle, not really knowing what I was doing in the gym as much and not feeling confident to try new classes or really make the most of my time in the gym. Walking into the gym now, I am always welcomed with open arms and I feel very comfortable being able to step right into classes and get a really great workout in. I’m so much stronger than I used to be physically and I find that I am motivated to challenge myself in my pilates classes and my confidence has increased. I feel very lucky to be a

member at Pinnacle and I am so grateful to the staff and to the trainers that motivate me everyday and make me feel like an important part of the club.
